Energy webquest

During this unit, you will be studying the various resources that give us energy to power our cars, homes, and lives. Your group will become experts on a particular energy resource.  You will be in charge of creating a powerpoint show explaining all about your resource, along with a fabulous presentation which must also include at least one of the following: a skit, scientific demonstration, video clip, or model.

  ROLES

Each member of the group will take one of these roles:

Engineer: You are responsible for explaining how the energy source works, meaning how do we get power from it? Also, what types of uses (generating electricity, driving cars...) do you see it working for?  You, and the historian, are also in charge of finding or creating and presenting a visual aid.

Historian: You need to research the history of the resource. If the resource was discovered, what people used it first and when? If the resource was invented who invented it and when? You are also in charge of working with the Engineer to find or create, and present a visual aid.

Environmentalist: You are on the team to assess how this resource impacts the environment. Is this resource renewable? why or why not? What are all of the pros and cons of using this resource? You are also in charge of collecting everyone's bibliography info, putting it together correctly, and making sure that the power point makes sense, is complete, and truthful.

Planner: Your job is to find out how useful this resource is the L.A. area. Do you think this resource could be used in the USA, California, and L.A. in the future? Which places? Why or Why not? You are also in charge of  the design elements in the powerpoint, (including putting in pictures) and organizing the whole presentation so that it flows well.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Here is an outline of what is expected of your group to get an "A" grade:

  • Power point presentation that carefully and correctly goes over each person's questions.  Powerpoint should be pleasing to the eye and easy to watch. The last slide should be a bibliography that shows where your information came from (use easybib if you wish). Presentation should show that you understand what you are presenting.

  • 1-2 other visuals to add to your presentation.  This could be a scientific demonstration, a model, a skit or song, a video clip or animation (either found or created), or anything else that will help us to understand your energy resource better.

    RESOURCES

To complete this project you will need to use at least three resources. Here are some places to look for books and articles:

    Hale MS Library

    Ms Fletcher's Library

    Your local library
