Marquette University

Bachelor of Science in Marketing

Marquette University was my home for four years of college and remains one of the biggest influences in my life. I learned about the world in so many different ways and regularly had my perspectives challenged at Marquette. As a marketing student, I received a great business education, but I also got to explore a variety of areas through the core curriculum and electives, like a coaching class and a seminar exploring race through the lenses of sports and hip-hop. However, the course I find myself referencing the most was a service-learning course on community organizing. Working with Common Ground, I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience about how to run events, hold people accountable, motivate groups, and make real change.

All of these experiences in classes paired with everything else I was doing those years. Midnight Run sent me all over Milwaukee serving the hungry and homeless of the city. A marketing internship took me to Los Angeles for a summer. Marquette basketball brought me down to the Bradley Center about twenty times each winter to yell myself hoarse. And countless conversations with people around campus that are still in my life today shaped how I view the world.

Loyola University Chicago

Master of Education in Higher Education

After a couple years getting experience in the field, I decided to return to school for a Master's degree, and Loyola was the perfect choice. I benefitted from exceptional faculty, a supportive cohort, and the opportunity to apply my learning in real time through my graduate assistantship during my two years of this program. I learned so much about social injustices in the world and in education, as well as how I could work as an individual to combat them.

Through higher education courses like Multiculturalism for Social Justice, Curriculum, Leadership, Organization and Governance, and Critical Social Theory, I became more aware of how I can operatein the world and be a more effective educator, and I was introduced to a number of scholars who continue to influence my thinking.
