Newsletter

Context:

This newsletter was created for the class, CI 3750, Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching, in the Spring of 2007. I created the assignment under the advisement of Jeff Goodman.

Impact:

I will use this newsletter to formally introduce my self to my students and their the parents or guardians.  I will also learn who my students are and what their likes and hobbies are by them giving me information of their favorites (things, animals, colors, sports, etc) I can integrate their interest into my lesson plans which will make students more engaged in the lessons and like the lessons more and show excitement about learning. Also, the child's parents/ guardians will get to know me and who I am (an intern from ASU) . This newsletter will help with the communication with parents, let them know of the new happenings of our class!

Alignment:

This activity has helped me meet the following NETS-T standards.

Standard Five

C. Apply technology to increase productivity.

I have met this standard by creating a newsletter which helps with communication between the teacher, parent, and student that sometimes is lost. With this newsletter, I hope they gain information about me so parents and students will be more comfortable with me,and show their best effort. I have learned that students will open up more if they know a little about you! Through my newsletter students are able to tell me about them which I use their interest into my lessons. Also, with this electronic newsletter I can make changes whenever I need to witch will increase productivity. I can have the newsletter avaible online that way when I update in frequently, students and parents can view it more quickly.

D. Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.

I met this standard by using the newsletter to communicate between students, parents, and me. I have included  my contact information (email and phone number) so that parents can get in touch with me me, if needed, this will make parents feel better if they have to talk to me about questions or concerns they have about their child. I also created a way of communication between all the students and I. I have a section in my newsletter where students will tell me about them!

The following has helped me meet the NCDPI standard for Elementary Teachers:

Standard 16: Elementary teachers develop as leaders in their schools and communities by staying informed about educational policy issues and supporting professional development. Elementary teachers participate in co-curricular activities , provide leadership in student and curriculum involvement, and connect these activities to the development of citizenship ideals in their students.

Indicator 3: Teachers communicate with parents, guardians, and caretakers to build partnerships between home and school.

I have met this standard by providing the parents my phone number and e-mail address( contact information) so the parents can get in touch with me if they have concerns or questions about their child. I also provided information about myself, so parents will get to know me!
