Media Survey on Television

This Media survey was conducted with Sarah Johnson. The survey was taken from the eighteen students in Mrs. Whittington's Kindergarten classroom at Moravian Falls Elementary in North Carolina and focused on TV habits. The students who answered the questions for our survey such as how many TV's do you have in your home, which students have a TV in their bedroom, what their favorite TV programs were, how many minutes of TV the watched daily and if they were allowed to watch TV alone. In the provided attachment, are the results of these questions and charts to conclude the findings.

Summary of the findings: I was very surprised in the results of the survey. The numbers of TV seem to be very high the average is about 3 TV’s per house. I was also surprise to see how many students have a TV in their bedroom and how many students can watch TV without supervision. This means they are probably watching TV any shows alone in their bedrooms. The one thing that was not surprising was the favorite TV shows of the students, most are cartoons.

This article, Between Teacher & Parent: The Effect of Television Violence on Children, by Adele M. Brodkin, discusses the influence TV programs have on children. This article forces on the negative influence of TV viewing of students and how it can make the students behavior violent depending on the types of shows the student watches. This article, Modeling: The negative affect that television can have on children, by Jacquelyn Kirkpatrick. This article is very informational and would be a helpful resource for parents to read. It discusses the effects TV has on their children. For example, students do what they see their parents and guardians doing like watching TV. And watching an excessive amount of TV is harmful toward students. Students who watch too much TV are more likely to become over weight or obese. Also students may become violent depending on what TV shows they watch, ones that are usually out of their age level.
