Health

Context: I completed this assignment for student teaching . I completed this assignment under the instruction of Mandy Bledsoe, cooperating teacher. I constructed a unit on dental health for the month of Febuary which dental health month. I taught the lesson in a kindergarten grade class at Mills Road School in the spring of 2008.

Impact: I created this science lesson with the help and advisement of my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Bledsoe. During dental health month in Feburary I constucted a unit teaching students about how to brush their teeth and how to floss their teehth and what ever important things they need to do to take care of hte teeth. We also disscussed how important our teeth are and how they help us.

Aliment: During student teaching I met the following standards:

Standard 5: Elemetnary teachers have an understanding of hte major concepts of healtful living.

Indicator 1: Teachers understanding the foundation of good health and help students understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

through teaching this lesson students learned what our teeth were for and how important it is to take care of our teeth. They also learned how to prevent disease from happening. Example Brushing, flossing, going to the dentist.

Indicator 2: Teachers are alret to major health issues related to children.

During this lesson, the students learned about major health issuses like cavities, gingervitist, tooth decay and how to prevent those major health ussues from happening. These are very important skills for students to learn.

Standard 13: Working alone, or with helathful living speicalists, elementary teachers create opportuites for student development and practice of skills that contribute to good health.

During this lessons, students go to practice brushing teeth by using a tooth brush and egg carton. Students had a chance to practice flossing by putting peanut butter on their fingers while their partners used yarn to floss the fingers. This helped students see how important it is to take care of their teeth and practice these vital skills.
