1.     SS.08.HS.01 – Represent and interpret data and chronological relationships from history, using timelines and narratives.

2.     SS.08.HS.05.01 – Understand the major characteristics and historical influence of the early civilizations of Mesopotamia, Indus River Valley, Egypt, the Americas, and Greece.

Goals

1.     Students will (SW) gain an understanding of the characteristics and influence of the culture of ancient Egypt.

2.     SW attain the concept of the Egyptian afterlife and how they prepared bodies for it.

Objectives (labled)

Objectives

 

1.     SW display their understanding of Egyptian culture by acting out a play, Egypt 2500 B.C. for their classmates (Applying/Psychomotor)

2.     SW accurately describe 4 characteristics of one Egyptian god in a small group and present their information to the class with a Google Presentation Slideshow. (Applying/Cognitive)

3.     SW construct a nameplate using the hieroglyphic characters for their names.  (Applying/Psychomotor)

4.     SW engage in a debate over the pros and cons of archaeologists entering ancient tombs to gain information about the society of ancient Egypt using King Tutankhamen as an example. (Evaluating/Affective)

5.     SW develop a detailed profile for a doll in small groups based on the life of an important pharaoh from ancient Egypt and present their info to the class. (Understanding/Cognitive)

6.     SW display their understanding of the mummification process by “mummifying” their doll following a process that mirrors the traditional steps of the mummification process. (Applying/Psychomotor)

7.     SW create and decorate a “tomb” for their mummy and decide on at least six articles to place in it that their character would need in the afterlife. (Creating/Psychomotor)
