Plan for Giving Feedback to Students

Due to the scheduling of the work sample unit, I was unable to be at Sheridan Japanese School on a school day after the completion of the unit to return the post-assessment and grading sheets for the final projects to my students.  I was however, able to fill them all out and hand them over to my mentor teacher to give the students during the first social studies class the next week.  The returned post-assessment showed students, question by question, where their points came from, and where they only received partial credit.  For the two final projects, the biography and the tomb construction, they received a point breakdown based on the grading rubrics they had received as well as specific comments about each of their assignments.  Additionally, our unit completed just before the end of the first trimester, and all grades were able to be included in their final grading report.  Information on a specific breakdown of the assignments that made up their grade is available from the school upon request if they wish to view it. 

Thanks to the highly creative, and tangible nature of their final projects, I also felt that I wanted to celebrate their accomplishments by sharing their tombs and biographies with the greater school community as well as their parents.  To do this, I consulted with the administration and was allowed to place the tombs prominently on display in the entryway of the school.  This public presentation of their projects also has the fortunate timing of taking place just in time for the upcoming all-school exhibition performance, which will be attended by most of the parents of the school.  I hope that the students will feel the same level of pride that I do when they show off their projects to family and friends alike.
