What I learned about teaching

From Ashley
  • Teachers constantly reflect back on previous experiences and practices and make alterations, if necessary.
  • Teachers' instruction must be differentiated to meet the varied needs of all students.
  • Teachers have many responsibilities besides educating thus; this can make the job very difficult. Teachers are counselors, role models, educators, mentors, advisors, and coaches.
  • Teachers need to have a trusting and respectful relationship with their students.
  • Teachers set high expectations for student performance.
  • Teachers have to actively engage students in the most optimal way. Children will achieve when there is a strong student engagement.
  • Teachers make mistakes while teaching.
  • Teachers must assess and evaluate students continuously. They use assessments to inform and improve teaching.
  •  Teachers help students discover what they can do, not just what they cannot.
  • Teachers understand that their language has a substantial effect on students and other teachers.
  • Teachers must be able to communicate clearly, thoughtfully, and correctly.
