In the following web pages, you will be invited to see from the unique perspective of a Xicana-Oakland-Native-Teacher. I am a self-declared born-again student (one who had spent their adolescence struggling in school only to return to become a teacher!) and have used this insight to find various and inventive ways to gage the interest and curiosity of my students. Please critique, question, become curious, and enjoy what you read here!

Resume

Greetings! My name is Marisol Nuno and I am an educator based in East Oakland. I have 4 1/2 years of experience working with young people of various ages and in various capacities. I have worked with preschool aged to high school aged youth as a coach and teacher. I am invested in continuing my work in under served and immigrant communities, where I have the most experience. I have received my BA in Spanish in 2011 and expect to earn my MA in Urban Education and Social Justice in May of 2013 from the University of San Francisco. The desire for social justice and the pursuit of achieving educational opportunities for low-income communities drives the work I do in this field. I am interested in applying my talents in urban high schools in Oakland public schools, since I have the cultural capital to work effectively with the students served in this specific school district.

Letters of Recommendation

The following recommendation letters are from the lovely staff at Emiliano Zapata Street Academy. I have known Ms.Betsy Schultz for 12 years, as a student and student teacher. She has taught at my current school for 40 years.  I have known Mr.Robert Young for 12 years as well and serves as the administrative assistant to the principle at Street Academy. My last recommendation letter is from the Street Academy Site Supervisor for the Bay Area Community Resources, Ms.Erin Brown, whom I have also known for 12 years.

Teaching Evaluations

The following evaluations were completed by my USF assigned supervisor, Laura Hernandez. She focused her observations on my Spanish foreign language classes taught at the alternative high school  Oakland Emiliano Zapata Street Academy, serving students grades 9-12. I did not teach history classes the Spring of 2013, therefore my observation are dedicated to the classes I taught this past quarter. The observations are attached.
