TPE 5: Student Engagement

It is necessary to find various instructional methods to gain the interest and participation of potentially disengaged and bored students. It is completely necessary to appeal to all types of learners through various instructional strategies so that there are a variety of inputs so they can engage with the content through multiple modes. By engaging with the students through multiple inputs, it provides students more opportunities to participate and advance toward the academic goals. Establishing a classroom community where participation is a normal part of classroom routines, it holds the students accountable to the expectation of the classroom culture and they cannot "check-out."

Applying the "no-opting out"  philosophy in my classroom routines, I have employed various strategies to bring the class together that appeal to all types of learners, speficially the kinesthetic. I enjoy using the "Call and Response" method of bringing the class together and to transition through activities during a lesson as well as a way to close up the class session. While the strategies seem simple, it has proven highly effective to engage the students and have an element of fun and "organized chaos" in the class.
