- Form a 2-person, 3-person team or 4-person team. If there are 5 or 6 of you - then split up into two separate groups.
- Choose one of the following scenarios:
1) You have been hired by the parents of Joe Kamel, a 9th grade student. They suspect that Joe is smoking cigarettes. He sees lots of adults smoking and thinks it's pretty cool. His parents think he might listen to you since you are his peer.
2) You have been hired by the parents of Jane Boozer, a 9th grade student. They suspect that Jane is drinking alcohol. She sees lots of adults drinking and thinks it's pretty cool. Her parents think she might listen to you since you are her peer.
3) You have been hired by the parents of Bob Dopey, a 9th grade student. They suspect that Bob is smoking marijuana. He just saw "Up in Smoke" and thinks smoking pot is pretty cool. His parents think he might listen to you since you are his peer.
4) You have been hired by the parents of Lisa Pardee, a 9th grade student. They suspect that Lisa is using illegal drugs. She has been sneaking out "clubbing" with her older sister. Her parents think she might listen to you since you are her peer.
TAKE NOTE - ALL OF THE ABOVE STUDENTS ARE POOR READERS...THUS THE PARENTS HAVE ASKED YOU TO COME UP WITH A MOSTLY VISUAL MESSAGE BY MAKING A SHORT VIDEO COMMERCIAL THAT WILL HELP THEIR SON OR DAUGHTER REALIZE THE DANGERS OF SMOKING, ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE. BUT - YOU SHOULD STILL INCLUDE SOME FACTS.
THE TASK
- Become an expert on the substance your student is abusing. Once you have assembled all the research facts then help the parents reach their son or daughter by making a public service announcement.
