Sydney Peck is the creator of this e-portfolio. She is a Junior majoring in Biology at Loyola University Chicago. She hopes to complete her undergraduate degree and then continue onto graduate school to become a Physician’s Assistant. Her overall goal as a Physician’s Assistant is to be a source of support and love for her patients.

In August of 2013, Sydney went on a Global Brigade to Ghana, Africa where she spent 10 days interacting with local men, women, and children both inside and outside of the clinical setting. This experience solidified Sydney’s desire to go into the medical field. She feels confident on her journey toward becoming a Physician’s assistant and cannot wait to begin a career in which she gets to spend her time helping and caring for others.

This Brigade has even inspired Sydney to attend another brigade and to possibly take a year off between graduating from Loyola and attending graduate school. She is thinking about taking that time to travel to a country (or countries) abroad where she may work or volunteer in a hospital.  After experiencing the amazing adventure of her brigade, she craves interacting, helping, and forming relationships with people of other cultures just as she did in Ghana. She found that the most valuable part of her brigade was developing genuine connections with the people she met there, and she truly hopes that she can continue to make those kinds of connections with her patients in the future, hopefully during that year abroad and continuing into her career after that. Who knows, maybe she’ll spend that year in Ghana!
