Where I'm From
I’m from a world that’s right-side-down
From a land people don’t pay attention to
To a building that flies through the streets
From the concepts of magical powers
To the nonsense that it really is
I’m from the sandy beaches
Mixing between my toes
Bodies of sand toppling over
From the clear, calm waters
Filled with schools of fishes
From the mighty, mighty shades tress
That drop mangos by the threes
I’m from the rice and beans
With a little bit of chicken grease for flavor
From the home made juices
With the flavors that can’t be named
From the “who-knows-what”
To the “what’s that from”
And back to the “yeah, yeah, yeah”
I’m from the nagging parents
That always need a clean room
From Grandma’s Snow yelling
To Baby Kathy’s whining
From the house down the street
To the doctor in the next room
From the colors that surround the kitchen
To the tiles that make the room light up
I’m from the streets that seem to be quiet
But the house that can’t stop talking
From the booming of a child’s drum
To the soft melodies of winded sounds
I’m from the smooth Bachata
To the fast-paced salsa
I’m from Wilson and Evelyn
From Pedro and Hope
I’m from the KaJeJu
From the factories to the schools
I’m from the place no one’s seen
Haha.. that’s where I’m from
