This semester, I have the honor of interning at Chicago's #1 radio station, B96. The radio station is one of several CBS radio organizations, which plays Top 40 Hits and Hip Hop. I am one of six lucky interns chosen out of thousands of applicants to learn more about the background work that goes into running a radio station. I spend time both in the downtown office, as well as participating in events outside of the studio, including sporting events, concerts and street broadcasts. In the office, I spend time calling overly excited contest winners and help the on-air radio personalities organize their daily discussion topics.

Most of the time, however, I participate in the events outside of the studio to interact with listeners and hand out prizes and free samples. Whether I am meeting fans at a Bears games or organizing the set design for a sold out concert, there is never a dull moment where I am not learning. The position involves spending a lot of times with listeners from all over the Chicagoland area, as well as learning about how to assemble the complicated sound system boards and speakers for live broadcasts.

           The biggest project during my time at B96 is setting up the entire production of the B96 Jingle Bash, which is an annual concert that is known for always features prominent names, like Justin Bieber and Rihanna. During this event, I will be setting up the sound system, understanding how the lighting works in the Allstate Arena and facilitating the Meet and Greet with the winners and celebrity artists. My main goal at the end of the internship is to hopefully be offered a position working with the station and being a coordinator for all of the phenomenal events that the radio sponsors. I take my duties within the internship very seriously and could not be more devoted to or passionate about this organization.
