Substitute Lesson Plan - Wednesday, 12/09

Unfortunately, my son is still sick and I will be gone from school today.  We will begin the Shark Tank presentations tomorrow.  Anyone that volunteered to present today will now present first tomorrow.  Today you will do an individual assignment.  The instructions for the assignment are below.  Please note that the assignment is due by the end of the block.  Despite the shortened period, you should have plenty of time to get the assignment completed.

NOTE:  If you finish early, you are to practice your Shark Tank Pitch

We have talked briefly about ethics, or determining what is right and wrong, when working in the business world.  Now you will read about some real world examples of good and bad business ethics.

The Bad:  here are a few examples of what happens when individuals and corporations make unethical or bad decisions.

  1. Research one of the following corporate scandals: Enron, WorldCom, Tyco International, Lehman Brothers.  Be sure to understand the following:

    • What happened - in your own words

    • Who was involved - include job titles

    • What was the outcome - give specific examples of what happened to the people involved and the company as a whole.  Also include any information about the affects on employees and customers.

The Good:  we always here about the bad first.  But let's look at the good too.  Below are examples of eight companies built on the good ethical decision making and positive contributinos to society.
