Policy Proposal safety concerns

School House (Lg.)

Rationale

Context:  This policy proposal was created for Learner Diversity, CI 3000, in the fall of 2007 under the advisement of Dr. Allen Bryant Jr.

Impact: In every school across the country educators and leadership are charged with teaching and caring for children.  We, as educators, have a responsibility to care for these students in the same manner as a parent would care for their child.  We must be conscious of the safety factors that surround our students and make wise choices to keep them safe.  This policy proposal challenges leaders of our school to consider updating playground equipment for the safety of our students.

Standard 17: Elementary teachers understand safety and liability issues in elementary and advocate for appropriate safety materials and enforcement practices in the classroom.

Indicator 5: Teachers develop a short and long-term plan for improvement of school safety.

Standard 17 indicator 5 has been met because this policy proposal is a plan for supervisors in the educational field and parents to find ways to replace old and damaged playground equipment.  This proposal also describes the various data about playground accidents and types of playground equipment available.
