Rationale Context: These assignments were completed in the Spring semester of 2007 under the guidance of a professor at ASU. Impact: As I begin my teaching career and I think back on every assignment that I have completed, I can see this one being the most useful. There are one hundred and eighty days worth of pacing guides about North Carolina History. Nearly all of the days have suggestions for activities that I can and will use with my students. Standard 11: Elementary teachers connect social studies with the broad curriculum. Teachers use the scope and sequence of the social studies curriculum to teach skills through the integration of the social studies content with the areas listed below.
Indicator 1: Teachers incorporate communication in their lessons.
Indicator 3: Teachers enhance social studies lessons by making connections with scientific discoveries and technological innovations.
Indicator 4: Teachers incorporate mathematics in their social studies lessons.
Indicator 5: Teachers incorporate technology skills in their social studies lessons through collecting data, organizing and sorting data, and displaying data in a variety of ways. Standard 11 indicators 1, 3, 4, and 5 are met because this pacing guide contains ways that students can use technology skills in their social studies lessons where they can manipulate data and learn to display it in a variety of ways. This pacing guide incorporates activities that tie mathematics and science skill into social studies. This document will enable me to use the scope and sequence of the social studies curriculum to teach social studies skills. These activities also help me to teach communication skills to my students.
