Moon Journal

Man on Moon (Lg.)

Rational

Context: This document was created and completed under the advisement of Dr. Terry N. Carroll in the summer of 2008 for Science & Science Teaching in the Elementary School

Impact: This assignment can and will be utilized in any grade that I teach in the elementary school.  I created a moon journal by watching the moon over a series of nights and recording it's place in the sky.  The information I found will be helpful in explaining the moon to my students.

Standard 3: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in science.

Indicator 3: Teachers have knowledge of basic earth science concepts including:
Planetary astronomy (objects in the sky, changes in the earth and sky, and weather)

Earth dynamics and systems

Standard 3 indicator 3 was met because this artifact demonstrates that I have a knowledge of basic earth science concepts.  I have explained my ideas and findings about the phases of the moon and why the moon appears to be gone one day and in the sky the next.
