Applied Leadership

As part of my nursing role transitions class, I participated in working within an interdisciplinary team.  Nurses are the core of the team because of the extensive time spent with the patient, as well as extensive clinical knowledge.  Using professional collaboration allows for more effective achievement of patient care goals and outcomes.  Communication is a vital part of the patient care process.  Having the experience to work with an interdisciplinary team has allowed me to refine and develop my communication skills.  This, in turn, promises to yield better patient care outcomes due to the extensive information being shared with each specialty.  Nurses are leaders because of their ability to effectively and professionally communicate with the team.

As a new professional nurse graduate, I will employ my knowledge and experience to deliver safe and effective patient care.  I will utilize the key behaviors I have learned over the course of my clinical rotations to continue to build upon the strong foundation I have gained through my BSN program.  I will go above and beyond to ensure that each and every patient I care for is treated for in the best, most professional manner.

This professional mission statement defines how I will practice as a nurse.  By developing these qualities, I will be guided to become a proficient, respected nurse and will strive to constantly grow and learn throughout my nursing career.  I will value and respect each and every patient I have the opportunity to care for.  I will bring these values to an interdisciplinary team to effectively work in collaboration with others.
