Rationale:
Context: In developing this lesson I researched about Thomas Jefferson and his accomplishments. I used resources from the internet to help me find information on Thomas Jefferson.
Impact: believe this project will be beneficial for students in helping them learn about the Declaration of Independence as well as helping them learn about Thomas Jefferson and his many accomplishments.
Alignment:
I met standard 4 by having a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in social studies. I met indicator 2 by understanding the social science disciplines. I was able to do this by understanding the nature of social studies. I did this by researching on Thomas Jefferson to have background knowledge on him. I also knew about the visual and temporal concepts and their relationships. I will also give the students new knowledge and develop their critical thinking skills from questions about Thomas Jefferson. I met standard 6 by understanding basic geographical concepts and how they can be integrated. The students will know and develop this by understanding the relationship that the United States had with Great Britian during this time. The students will study this using a map, and globe, and learning about basic geography. I met indicator 11 by promoting the basic principles of being a citizen as well as developing and promoting an understanding of character, which includes; responsibility, intergrety, self-disclipline, caring, respect, perseverance, courage, and citizenship. The students will be able to see and understand this from learning about Thomas Jefferson during the time of declaring their independence from Great Britian.
I met Standard 11 by connecting social studieswith the broad curriculum. I used the scopeand sequence of the social studiescurriculum to teach skills through the integration of the social studies content with the areas listed below. I met indicator 1 by incorporating communication in the lessons. I met indicator 5 by incorporating technology skills in the social studies lessons through collectiing data, organizing, sorting data, and displaying data in a variety of ways.
