Rationale:
Context: I did this checklist to make sure that my classroom was secure in safety. I wanted to make sure that the things in the classroom were up to date. I looked around the room and checked off on my list for science safety.
Impact: I believe this will benefit the needs of the students. I also feel that I have a better understanding and better knowledge of where things are located in my classroom by doing this. I think this will benefit the students also because they can be familiar with these safety issues, and know where to located and what to do in an emergency.
Alignment: I met standard 17 by having an understanding of safety and liability issues in elementary and advocating them for appropriate safety materials and enforcement practices in the classroom.
I did this by meeting indicator 1 and I ensured that the safety issues were included in instruction and provided supervision during lab activities and the field experiences.
I met indicator 2 by having to analyze the lab/activities for safety and research materials/chemicals to know safety issues before they were used.
I met indicator 3 by having a working knowledge and complying with the science safety laws, codes, and standards.
I met indicator 4 by having a model and communicating appropriate safety behaviors.
I met indicator 5 by developing a short and long-term plan for improvement of school safety.
