Rationale:
Context: In doing this lesson I used a worksheet, and created questions for it. I created a worksheet for this lesson, and used Microsoft word to do this with. I was able to get the students involved in the lesson, and use materials around them to help them have a better understanding. I also did this so they could physically see and count how they got the answer for the pictograph if they didn't understand it.
Impact: I will use this lesson in my future class to help students have a better understanding of pictographs. I will be able to see the children's reactions, and I could have them make up their own pictograph if they want to do that. I also can assess what they are learning by doing this.
Alignment: I met standard 2 by having a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in mathematics. I met indicator 3 by having a broad knowledge of patterns, relationships, functions, symbols, and models. I was able to do this in my lesson by showing the students the relationship between the symbol, key, and graph and how to relate them. I also used symbols for this graph. I had the students to create, extend, and predict the outcome of the graph using patterns through the key and symbol. I used problem solving skills with the questions about the graph they created. I used appropriate software to do the pictograph as a whole by using the smart board. I meet indicator 4 by having a knowledge of data, probability, and statistics. I demonstrated this by showing the importance of formulating the proper questions in order to get reliable answers through analyzing. I used various methods for reporting and representing the data through graphs, charts, and tables. I used the appropriate software in creating the worksheets for promoting the graph.
