Licensure Info

Teacher candidates must be recommended for full teaching licensure by Metropoltian State Urban Teacher Program once meeting all program and state requirments for licensure.   (See attached Checklist)

If you want to be a short-call substitute teacher, you can apply for such a license directly with Educator Licensing if you have a Bachelor's degree and a school district that signs off on your application saying they need subs.

    Note from UTP Licensure Officer: Please GO TO: https://education.state.mn.us/MIDMS/login.jsf?AppId=CEL online where you will be required to register/create a new account (username and password) on the MN Department of Education web site. Keep track of your log on info as you will need it from time to time to renew your MN teaching license. Be sure to download/printout all the documents needed to be signed and completed by UTP for your MN teaching license recommendation. Next, forward the document(s) by US Mail, FAX or email to the UTP-Field@metrostate.edu and copy me at me email: Eric.Fotsch@metrostate.edu It will be helpful to have your MN Teacher Exam test scores sent in as well, if you have the scores available. Once your application document is received, your records at the University will be reviewed and confirmed that all is in compliance and good standing (see the attachment for a listing). Then, your recommendation application will be signed and returned to you through the US Mail. Lastly, once you have the completed recommendation application, you may forward all necessary documents, fees and finger print card, etc. to the MN Department of Education per the instructions of the application.
