Contacting USciences Faculty for Research Opportunities

USciences has many faculty who are interested and enthusiastic in taking in and mentoring undergraduates in their research groups. Below is a preliminary list, with their areas of research expertise and contact information. As we develop and widen this list, CUR will provide links to faculty research websites. Undergraduates interested in working with any of these faculty are advised to follow the following steps in contacting faculty:

1. Research the name of the faculty of interest on the USciences website and determine if they have a website describing the research they do. Browse these research websites so you get a sense of the faculty's research.

2. Draft an email to the faculty of interest, expressing interest in undergraduate research, and a specific interest in the faculty's  research area. Request and arrange a meeting with the faculty to explore possible research opportunities with him/her. Be PROFESSIONAL in your approach and iIntroduce yourself (name, major, year) and provide several possibile meeting dates/times. Be flexible. If you have a resume with a list of discipline courses you've taken, enclose it. Thank the faculty for considering your request.

3. Send the email and wait for the response. If a meeting is arranged, be prompt, courteous and professional at the meeting. If you receive no response, wait sometime and try following-up either by email or in-person.

4. Not all faculty have space and time to mentor multiple undergraduates in their research group. You may have to wait for the right time or you can explore other groups too. Good luck!

A more updated (as of Sept 15, 2017) Mentor List is found at: MORE UPDATED RESEARCH MENTOR LIST (Click Opportunities)
