  1. Who are you doing research with this summer and what kind of research project are you doing ?

I am currently doing research with Dr. Tomsho. We are working to develop more

efficient antibiotics to combat many different types of infectious diseases.

  1. What do you find fascinating in the research that you’re doing ?

I find my research fascinating because it gives me the opportunity to have a potential impact on the world of healthcare. I am thrilled that I have the chance to research ways to improve an antibiotic; with the ultimate goal to improve patient therapeutics.

  1. What skills are you learning through the USURF experience ?

I am learning many different laboratory techniques that I will be able to build upon throughout my chemistry career. I am also learning how important it is to work in a team. Whenever I have questions about what I am doing or I am looking for suggestions, my fellow researchers are able to give me their opinions and input to help me out.

  1. What are the challenges you’re encountering in your research ?

In the lab, I have failed and reactions have not worked the way I had hoped. This makes me work even harder to find a way to make the compounds correctly.

  1. How is your USURF experience impacting the way you view your field ?

My USURF experience is impacting the way I view my field by giving me an idea of what is expected in a typical laboratory environment. I am also learning how to be more confident in my own abilities and not second guess my own instincts.
