Vision Project

" Without a sustained process for building shared vision, there is not way for a school to articulate its sense of purpose."- Peter Senge

Having a vision is very important for any organization but what is of utmost importance is the ability to have a shared vision. It is therefore important that a school have a shared vision  where all the stakeholders share the responsibility for the whole vision. However, it is essential that as a principal develops a  :framework" that promotes ongoing communication and assessment of the vision. Therefore, it is important that the direction is clear to all and everyone is aware of where the organization is heading and why they should take the trip.

It is well known that different groups seek different outcomes from education. Parents wish for their children to be successful, teachers want to create curriculum that will engage the students and the administration is focused on meeting states standards. However, before any school can achieve success, thus providing all stakeholders with a sense of satisfaction, there needs to be a shared vision.  Without a process for building a shared vision, the objectives and goals of a school cannot be met. Therefore, visions are emergent and must be revised based on current conditions and reality. Without a true understanding for the need to modify a vision, purposeful changes cannot be made.  According to Senge, vision without an understanding of current reality will more likely foster cynicism than creativity. As a leader it is important to raise the current reality toward the vision, showing a picture of the present realities and why it is important to make changes so that teachers, parents and students would be motivated to make changes.

In the attached one would be able to read work done around articulating a school's vision, and the importance of revisiting that vision.
