    This is the site of the Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement which was a federally funded center between 1997-2002. It has links to many useful sites as well as excellent resources.

    This website, the Northwest Regional Lab, has a down-loadable guide to scoring children's writing using the 6 + 1 trait system. This system is currently being promoted within CPS.
  2. ISAT Writing Handbook ISAT Writing Handbook
    This handbook lays out the Illinois state's expectations for students in writing grades 3, 5 and 8. It's worth downloading to see the nature of how the state was assessing writing and the kinds of skills that were thought to be imnportant for high quality writing.

Commissioned by the Aspen Institute Program on Education and co-published by the Annenberg Institute for School Reform.
