Women have been forced to do many things in order to survive, and for many Syrian refugees, were forced to become prostitutes in order to eat and have a roof over their head. These women were literally locked up and the pimps erased any visibility of the problem or of them. Women have no choice in the matter, and Lebanon specifically is a sex tourist capital. Women in brothels in Lebanon have been kept, locked up, torchered, and forced into prostitution for many years on end. There are no considerations given for their refugee status or a need to provide for themselves. This issue is an intersection of gender, immigration, globalization, and inequality. The man below, Boulos, is one of the men working undercover to raid brothels and hopefully rescue many of the women affected by this unjust system. Boulos and his men arrest pimp by pimp, although the women can also be sentenced to time, even though they're victims of this system.
This issue not only makes my blood boil, but also calls me to find some form of action that I can take. These issues may appear on the news for a day or two, but fade so quickly to the background that the public easily forget that these women are being taken advantage of every single day. Through documentaries such as this one that brings an intersection of global disparities to the surface and through a combination of local authorities and global accountability, only then can these major issues be solved.
