Introduction

There are several topics that I have been inspired to learn more about in regards to global inequalities. I would like to expand my knowledge on foreign aid and missions, especially with how they differ when run by the public or private sector. Additionally, I would like to learn about consumerism and especially how American consumerism impacts those globally, how it continues to impact the American view of the "other", and how it even informs our definition of aid.

I would like to learn about how sexuality is perceived globally in addition to gender and how it is affected by tradition, wealth, etc. This interest was sparked by my study abroad experience and meeting students who's sexuality had an even larger impact on their lives than here in the US.

More than anything, though, I would be interested in getting a perspective on youth and children and how global inequalities affect the family, the role immigration and inequality specifically plays on the youth, and how the "class" of youth changes globally. I am interested in the family dynamics across different cultures, what the expectations are, and how my privilege as a daughter of American citizens is different. With issues of unaccompanied minors making a way for themselves across the border, illegal child labor, sex trafficking, and other issues specifically affecting the global youth population, I think that this topic is especially pertinent.
