Experience in a classroom is crucial. Being placed in a variety of classrooms, grades and even school districts has prepared me for what lies ahead for when I have a classroom of my own. I have learned numerous learning strategies from my mentor teacher as well as built relationships with my mentor teachers and the students. I have enjoyed and learned unforgettable knowledge by assisting and giving lessons that I will apply throughout my profession.

Chandler Traditional Acadamy Independence
Grade: 5
Hours: 31
Chandler Traditional Acadamy Independence Elementary school has been an extremely unique and helpful experience and has reassured me that teaching is what i want to do. Being placed into a classroom full of 5th graders has been a fascinating thing to observe. All of the children have extremely smart minds, and they are all eager to learn more. At CTA-Independence, they force independence upon each child. There is minimal group work; everything the students complete is done on their own. I always believed the more children worked together, the more creative ideas there would be; however, this school proved me wrong. It is amazing how well all of the students follow direction so well and how each of them respect one another. My mentor teacher has a good classroom enviornment which allows the children to be themselves and at the same time, know their limits.
Longfellow Elementary School
Grade: 3rd
Hours: 20
Participating in a title one school has opened my eyes to many new things. Longfellow Elementary has given me the opportunity to observe and participate in a classroom environment that I am not familiar with. Most of my time spent in this classroom was working one-one with students to help improve their reading and math skills. This third grade classroom has a group of young bright children that are eager to learn. Getting to know each of my future students will allow me to become a greater educator and connect better with students and their parents.
San Marcos Elementary School
Grade: 6th
Hours: 24
Participating in a 6th grade classroom at San Marcos Elementary has been an extremely memorable service learning experience. San Marcos Elementary provided me with a unique outlook on how to interact with ELL students.I was able to interact with students in numerous ways; I attended a field trip to the Renaissance festival, hosted two interviews with both my mentor teacher and a student, and presented two lesson plans to the class. I was really able to connect and interact with the students. I will be able to take this information with me in my future classroom.
Annual Book Joy Jamboree
Chandler-Gilbert Community College
November 10, 2010
3.0 Hours
I participated at the Book Joy Jamboree annual event that took place at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. At this event, groups of four-five college students get paired up with ten first graders from Humphrey Elementary School. We read, When you Give a Mouse a Cookie, and collaborated on an enjoyable activity to go along with the story. My group members and I gave the student’s a T-shirt that read ‘Book Joy Jamboree’ and had a picture of a cookie on it. Along with creating the shirts, we gave the students construction paper with a border along the sides. At the end of the story, the mouse draws a picture of his family and puts it on the refrigerator. We also had students draw a picture of their family to put on their refrigerator. This event was an extremely wonderful and beneficial event to participate in. Being involved with children learning and having an enjoyable was a great experience.
Patterson Elementary School
Grade: 4th
Hours: 25.5
“Ms. Rebuth are you coming back next week?” many of the students from Patterson Elementary School would ask me as I left for the afternoon. Participating at this school has been an extremely joyous and unique experience. I have had the opportunity to observe several classroom management techniques as well as present two read-alouds and activities to go along with them. My mentor teacher also allowed me to work one-on-one with students in math and during reading block. After being involved in this classroom, I have realized how important a literature rich classroom environment is and the many ways to engage children in literature as well as the importance of an organized classroom and well-structured classroom. From this incredible experience, I will take what I have learned through my lesson plans and what I have observed from my mentor teacher into the rest of my college career as well as in my future classroom.
Mentor Teacher's Comments: "Ms. Rebuth had a great learning experience. She was highly professional. She went above and beyond in any task I had her do!"
