Pennsylvania Testing Requirements for Teaching Certification

Graduate School

Major in Educational Studies or Content Area and Return to Cabrini University for Graduate School

Educational Studies majors who are interested in pursuing Pennsylvania teaching certification after graduation can enroll in a graduate certification program at Cabrini and take a minimum of four 3-credit courses at the graduate level and 3-6 credits of student teaching to be recommended for certification.  If a Cabrini graduate has met all of the requirements for  PreK-4 or PreK-4 with Special Education PreK-8 at the undergraduate level, he or she should take the following four courses before student teaching.

  • EDG538 Assessment in PK-12 Inclusive Classrooms
  • EDG546 English Language Learner in Inclusive Classrooms
  • EDG547 Classroom Management
  • A higher-level methods course selected with your graduate advisor
  • EDG 490 Student Teaching (3-6 credits)

The required courses will vary if a recent graduate has not met all of certification requirements in his or her undergraduate program.  To complete an M.Ed., three master core courses are required, as well as electives to equal a minimum of 30 credits.  Electives will be selected with your graduate advisor.

For recent graduates interested in secondary certification, a minimum of three graduate courses are required before student teaching.  These courses will be set by your graduate advisor based on a transcript review and your interests.

Students will need to pass the required content exams (PECTS or Praxis) for ceritification.  Please talk with your advisor or Department Chair, Dr. Martha Ritter, if you have questions.
