Staff Reflections

Catholic Charities Madonna House would not be what it is without the great staff that does their best to make it a safehaven for the families that walk through its doors. They welcomed me and taught me how to better serve others, so I decided to commemorate them by making a video documenting their responses to the question, "What does Madonna House mean to you?" I have included some of their responses below.

  • "What Madonna means to me is family, love, protecting, and rebuilding. What we do here is help families rebuild some parts of their lives that they have lost, and we start by showing them compassion"
  • "What Madonna House means to me is a way for a woman to find equal opportunity living"
  • "What I like about the shelter is helping women and children…. Sometimes they are down and depressed, but once you talk to them and hug them, I hug them like their momma would hug them and they smile and they appreciate it, and I appreciate the shelter for helping them"
  • "What Madonna House means to me is a place of safety, a place of sanctuary where the women can come and take part in their own healing"
  • “Madonna House to me is a village in the midst of a big city. It is a village because—you’ve heard the phrase “it takes a village to raise a child”—there are so many people here from staff to volunteers and donors who give a little bit to help a family in need. We all have something to give so that these families can be enriched and supported as they go on from here"
