1. Admission Criteria

Candidates must meet the admission criteria for graduate school and then meet the following requirements for admission into the M.Ed. Program:

• Have an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution
• Must be eligible for, or hold, teacher certification or eligibility with submission of scores from the Praxis II, the National Teacher Examination or equivalent state certification testing in your field(s) of initial teacher certification
  • with the exception of School Counseling and the Interdisciplinary Program, which need to submit Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores
• Must have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  • Provisional admission may be granted for students who have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75-2.99
  • GPA of less than 2.75 may be considered individually for provisional status by the College of Education Academic Monitoring Committee
• Credentials of international students applying for admission to graduate programs in the Educational Professions Department will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

2. Meet with Program Coordinator to develop Study Plan.

A study plan by specific areas of concentration within the Master of Education program.

The candidate must meet with the graduate program coordinator to devise a study plan within the first semester of study whereby educational goals are planned and degree requirements are discussed. The study plan is a list of courses to meet degree requirements. Once the study plan is approved by the program coordinator, any subsequent changes must be approved by the aforementioned. 

The program of study must not be less than 30 credit hours with a minimum of 18 credit hours of the entire program of study taken in 600-level courses, 9 credits of which must be in the area of concentration. Candidates will have six years from the time of their first course to complete their degree. Exceptions for extensions can only be provided by the graduate program coordinator and the director of graduate services.

3. Purchase Taskstream Account.

All M.Ed. candidates must purchase a Taskstream Account for the duration of their program. Key Assessments throughout the program are submitted to this site for evaluation of the candidates and the program.

4. Complete the Professional Core:

All concentrations in the M.Ed. program begin with the Professional Core. The courses are designed to provide a foundation of knowledge and skills, which will assist candidates in completing requirements in each of the concentrations. Candidates should take the Professional Core during the first semesters of the program but prior to completing the 18 credits. Exceptions to this policy need to be approved by the College of Education's Academic Monitoring Committee. (Requests for exceptions need to be made through the Program Coordinator.)

5. Apply for Degree Candidacy:

6.Complete the courses in the Area of Concentration

7. Complete Capstone Research Project:

All M.Ed. candidates need to successfully complete a research project as part of their concentrations. Each concentration has specific information regarding the requirements for the research.
