Light

GE Prestention

1. I learned many things from the GE presentation. The timeline of how fire progressed to lightbulbs to lightbulbs that can get up to 1,000 Watts. I learned who came up with inventions for light before and after Thomas Edison's invention of the lightbulb. Things that I didn't know was how oil was made from animal fat a long time ago. Also how you could find oil and kerosene from the ground.

2. I wanted them to discuss more about how they coat the fluorescent lightbulbs with rocks that they grind into powder. That is then made into a liquid form. Then once UV Rays hit the shines it can emit different colors.

3. "With Light Comes The Future"

4. Thomas Edison(1913) - Produced the first talking motion pictures

Reflection

Depending on the amount of light or the kind of light is what determines the color you see. If you were to look at a lightbulb and then out a prism in front of it the color the bounces off would be blue, green, or red. If you were to mix blue, green and red then ou will get a very white light. If you have a kind of yellowish light those bright colors would seem brown. That's the corralation between color and light.

  • The color wheel is like the musical scale. The scales can be expanded ino syphanies. As in color it can be combined and unlimited number of ways.
  • Color can manipulate emotion
  • NO Light = NO Color
  • We percieve colors because of the way our brain interprets them through what our eyes transmitted.
  • Perception of color is a neurophysiological process. It uses both the nervous system and the physiological apparatus for seeing.
  • Impressionists painted what we see more than what we think we see.
  • Surfaces produce color because of the molecular structure of the surface.
  • Hue of organic compounds can be altered chemically if you want to change them.
  • Colors seen are caused by abosorbing white light.
  • Red absorbs all rays of whitr light except the ones with wavelength.
  • Additive color is color in direct light.
  • Subtractive color is color in relation to pigment.
  • Monochromatic = One Color
  • Analogus colors are the color that are next to each other on the color wheel.
  • Primary colors are Red, Green, and Blue

There are two kinds of light. The glow that illuminates and the glare that obscures.

Show and Tell

Glow and Glare

Glow and Glare

My First Picture is Lafayette, <st1:State>Louisiana</st1:State>. It shows the bright lights and the city when it’s illuminated at night. This is my glow because when you see this picture you get an idea of how the environment could be. You would believe that if you think Lafayette is a sight to see, wait till you see <st1:Street><st1:address>Bourbon Street</st1:address></st1:Street> down in New Orleans.

The second picture is what was left of New Orleans ever since Hurricane Katrina. This disaster happened in August of 2005 that devastated the world. The levees broke and flooded the whole city. People tried to evacuate and some made it out of the path of the storm. They had to start a new life wherever they migrated to. For the ones who couldn’t evacuate they were trapped in the storm. Some survived and other died.

These two pictures complement each other because when you are in Lafayette, you see how the houses are so well built and put together. Then as soon as you get to New Orleans you say to yourself what happened? It seems like a whole different part of the world ever since hurricane Katrina. The reality of it has to be that New Orleans is going through a crisis on trying to build the city back up. It doesn’t look like “The Big Easy” anymore.

La Riot Aftermath

<w:wrap type="square" anchorx="margin" anchory="margin"></w:wrap>This picture is the sight of the aftermath of the LA Riots. The people in Los Angeles rioted among their own community after the beating of Rodney King. They felt like it wasn’t fair because those cops were acquitted of their actions. They burned down building and cars. People were killed and had nothing to do with it. This was truly a tragedy that our country faced.

Enslavement

Enslavement

Between 1915 and 1969 the Aboriginal’s identities were stolen and given to white families. Back then that was the policy for these men. The government formed assimilation between the white communities and the aboriginals. In all areas with many cultures held within them, was  a tragedy. The Aboriginals were imprisoned, deprived from work and became very ill. Australia recently  apologized for this horrific act they upheld until 1972.
