Academic Showcase

At IUPUI, I have excelled in my courses. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout the first three semesters, and will do my best to continue this for the next three semesters. I have taken many courses to prepare me for medical school and the career path of a physician, which include but are not limited to Principles of Chemistry I and II with Honors Recitation, Experimental Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I, Organic Chemistry I Laboratory, Windows on Science, Analytic Geometry & Calculus I and II, Yoga, Zumba, Psychology, Sociology, and Data Analysis Using Spreadsheets. I have chosen to major in Chemistry because I enjoy understanding how and why processes work. This will prepare me for the MCAT and a career in medicine because I will be able to understand myriad processes within the human body and other living organisms. I will continually seek to answer "why" not just "how." This will benefit my patients because I will strive to provide them with not only the best of care to help them feel better, but also a greater understanding of what is happening and how it is affecting their body. This will be significant to their understanding of research and the advancement of medicine.
 
In addition to a major in Chemistry  I am pursuing a Spanish minor with the hope to one day become a certified Medical Interpretor. The development of oral and written communication skills  may be transferred to any field that I choose to pursue.  This collaboration will be enhanced by improved communicative and analytical skills. Additionally, the ability to communicate without a translator allows for a stronger connection and trust between physician and patient. Furthermore, I will be able to travel and practice medicine in numerous other Spanish-speaking countries. This will fulfill my desire to travel and provide a beneficial service to others.
 
I have received numerous awards, honors, and scholarships, recognizing my achievements in academics and service.
  • I received the Bepko Scholars and Fellows Scholarship from IUPUI. This scholarship is designed for students who demonstrate integrity, dedication, leadership, and commitment to service and covers four years of tuition, books, and fees, two years of housing, and four years of post-undergraduate education ($5,000/year) at an Indiana University institution.
  • ​I was honored with placement on the Purdue School of Science Dean's List my first semester at IUPUI and the Scholar's List each subsequent semester. In order to qualify for the Dean's List, you must be a first-semester student, complete at least 12 credit hours, and maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher. After your first semester, to qualifty for the Scholar's List, you must earn a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
  • ​I was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta National Academic Honor Society for Freshman at IUPUI and the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society at IUPUI in April of 2016.
  • I graduated as Salutatorian of Lawrenceburg High School's class of 2015 with a 4.0 GPA.
  • I was included in the Lawrenceburg Early College Dean's List due to my academic ability. In order to qualify for the Dean's List, one must complete at least 12 Vincennes University credit hours and achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • I was presented with the Stanley + Leann Orem Achievement Award in March 2015 from Perfect North Slopes. My employers nominated me for this award because of my worth ethic and positive attitude.
  • I received the Dearborn County Community Foundation's Paul E. "Truck" Tremain Scholarship in July of 2015. This scholarship, which provides financial support to Lawrenceburg High School graduates pursuing post-secondary education, was bestowed to me due to my service to the community.
 
I graduated from Lawrenceburg High School in early June of 2015 with a 4.4 GPA. Throughout my high school career, I took 83 credit hours through Vincennes University's Early College program. I received the General Education Core 30 Certificate by taking classes in mathematics, English, foreign language, science, and history. Specifically, I have taken BIOL 101: Plant and Animal Biology, HIMT 110: Medical Terminology, MATH 102: College Algebra, MATH 104: Trigonometry, and MATH 111: Finite Mathematics in order to prepare for degree work in Biochemistry. Additionally, to prepare for a lifetime of using Spanish, as well as to pursue a Spanish minor, I have taken SPAN 101: Spanish Level I, SPAN 103: Spanish Level II, SPAN 119: Conversational Spanish for Technology Supervisors, SPAN 201: Spanish Level III, SPAN 203: Spanish Level IV, SPAN 211: Intermediate Spanish Readings I, and SPAN 212: Intermediate Spanish Readings II. I partook in numerous honors and advanced placement courses, including Biology I Honors, English 9 Honors, World History Honors, Advanced Placement Calculus, and Advanced Placement Biology. Moreover, I have taken classes that will aid in her pursuit of a career in medicine, including PFLW 100: Lifetime Fitness and Wellness, Principles of Biomedical Sciences, Human Body Systems, Chemistry I, and Chemistry II.

    I chose to take ENG-L 2015: Introduction to Poetry my first year at IUPUI. Our final project for that course is represented here by an anthology of poetic works surrounding a single theme; in this case, the personification of birds.
  2. Cation Analysis Cation Analysis
    In the second semester of Experimental Chemistry II, I performed a qualitative analysis in order to identify the cations present in a solution.
  3. El Portafolio El Portafolio
    In my SPAN-S 313: Composition in Spanish I course, I wrote four short essays and one research paper. These were revised and compiled into a final portfolio.
  4. GPA, Sleep, Nap Independent Research Project GPA, Sleep, Nap Independent Research Project
    I also received honors credit for an independent research project in my Introduction to Statistics course, STAT-301. I chose to survey my peers at IUPUI in hopes of better understanding the relationships between sleep and academic success in undergraduate students.

    I completed an additional research project for the course SOC-R 100: Introduction to Sociology in order to receive honors credit for the course. I chose to evaluate the need for further research regarding the mental health effects of victims of 9/11.

    In my first organic chemistry lab, we were assigned a group project involving substitution reactions. We had to compile our results and individually write a hypothetical Journal of Chemistry article in order to convey our research.
