Tema 3: La comida

Unit Topic: ¿Desayuno o almuerzo?                                                                                                                  Duration of Unit: 10 hours

 

Context for the Integrated Performance Assessment: A group of students from San José, Costa Rica is coming to spend two weeks with your Spanish class. You are on the committee that is planning a welcome breakfast for the students.

 

Interpretive Task: Watch a video about eating a typical breakfast in different Spanish speaking countries. Decide if the breakfast should be a typical Costa Rican breakfast, an American breakfast, or a combination of both. Make a list of foods that you think the breakfast should include.

 

Interpersonal Task: Discuss the kind of breakfast and the foods with two or three other members of the breakfast committee. Share your opinion with them and listen to their opinions. Working with the committee, decide on the kind of meal and the foods you will have for the welcome breakfast.

 

Presentational Task: Make an oral presentation to the class explaining the committee’s decisions about the welcome breakfast. Include the type of meal and the food you have chosen.

• How do interactions between cultures affect what they eat and drink?

• Do people in Spanish-speaking countries have similar foods and meals? Are they similar to or different from those in the U.S.?
