Describe your goals for growth and a brief summary of how you have met them this year.
Nursing has been my passion for the last 14 yrs of my career. I have always enjoyed helping my patients through the knwoledge I have obtained throughout career. My experience began even before I obtained my Associates degree in Nursing. My career choice prior to nursing, I had been a cosmotologist for 10 years prior. I had noticed my clients woudl confide in me with their problems, illnesses and feelings. I felt I was provided counseling at the same time I was providing beauty services in hopes of making them feel better and I became a good listener for them. So apart of me knew I was helping them in a way I knew nurses were trained to do. After my career in cosmotology ended abruptly, I used my past experince to achieve my first goal in the healthcare field by earning my associates degree while being a working mother of 2 children. It was a difficult stuggle some days to manage school, home and childcare at the same time, but my goal to obtain this degree kept me going. I have spent the last 14 years taking care of others, including my family, and have enjoyed the challenges of being a mother, wife, and nurse.
In the past 3 years, I had made a changed companies. When I hired on with Parkview Health, It was within a month of after I started. Parkview had been making plans to become a Magnet hospital. One of the goals for the hospitals was to have new nurses starting with Parkview to either have or would obtain a bachelor degree in nursing within 5 years of employment. Since I had started before this came in effect, I was grandfathered in Parkview. After seeing my fellow coworkers becoming a certified Registered Nurse and the pride on their faces after obtaining this degree, I felt I too need this, i was to ever move up in the organization.
This brings me to my goals for growth, by obtaining my bachelors degree in nursing, I feel I have achieved a major accomplishment that was not required of me but felt I needed to achieve to feel part of the Magnet team. I can say I helped Parkview with one of their goals to have all nurses employed practicing with a Bachelors degree in Nursing. Secondly, I plan to use this degree to further my career in leadership in nursing. I will be able to take everything I have learned this past year and apply it within my practices. I feel I can take on the challenges that most leaders endure such as, staffing, mold trainees to develop emotional intellegience, integrity, become critical thinkers, communicate professionally with coworkers and patients, deticated to providing excellance in service/customer satisfaction, show respect at all times, professional socialation, and a good mentor to their peers.
Mu professional mission statement is continue unde the direction Parkview Health, non for profit healthcare system to provide quality and safe care to my patients, visitors, and coworkers by provideing quality health services to all who entrust their care with me, and work to improve the health of the communities I serve.
