Leadership

This page contains evidence of my growth as a professional in the area of (Leadership).

What leadership for me means good communication skills, able to handle stress, a critical thinker, and have attention to detail are just a few qualities that makes a good leader. As an employee health nurse, I am held at leadership standards. Coworkers look to me as a resource, healthcare provider, problem solver, and and advocate for their needs. These are all qualities it takes to show them I can be a leader on their behalf to promote quality and safety in the workplace.

Applicable Leadership was a key factor in Professional Roles and Values Course and the Leadership Learning Experience. I now know leadership is taking ideas that are workable within your field of work and applying it to improve processes, being accountable, and able to communicate it effectively. As a leader it is most important to believe in your own personal mission statement and the organizations, I learned as long as you have strong beliefs within yourself and the organization one has the opportunity to grow within the organization.  I learned to develop my Professional Mission Statement in the Professional Roles and Values course and was able keep this statement as a strong belief throughout my schooling and career.

“To improve the health and well-being of all indivividuals under my care to the best of my ability as if they were one of mine own and without bias, to always have a conscience and be considerate to all people, and to ensure my co-workers, collaborators are held to the same standard.”

As an Employee Health Nurse, I wouldn't adjust the mission statement as I still have strong beliefs in it

“To improve the health and well-being of all indivividuals under my care to the best of my ability as if they were one of mine own and without bias, to always have a conscience, be considerate to all people, and to ensure my co-workers, collaborators are held to the same standard.”

My Professional Mission Statement is to the point of explaintion on how I will manage myself as nurse. My mission statement will be used to guide me, remind me of how I would want to be treated if I was a paient and continue to up hold myself and my coworkers to a higher standard of healthcare. One would say if you believe in yourself, reality will manifest into good things. I do believe everyone shoudl have a personal missions statement to hold them accountable and eventually evolve themselves to a better person. This holds true for me as a nurse too.

As a nurse, collaboration is key to quality of care and leadership qualities. Whether its  conversing with others involved in the care. I must communicate effectively and efficent to ensure a positive outcome occurs for patients. I had the pleasure to experienced this when working with key stakeholders as part of my Leadership Learning Experience. I found that if your do not have full collaberation and support from your organization, the project would most likely fail. With effective and eficient communication with them I had gained their trust in order to come up with a topic, generate a plan, and present the final presentation.
