What is a flash mob exactly? In its basic form, a flash mob is a group of organized people who gather in a public place, perform a random act of events, and then disperse as if nothing had happened. The idea for flash mobs is to record the event and place it among the vast majority of social media sites around the World Wide Web.

For our group project, we will be conducting a flash mob located at the Hansel E. Tookes Recreation Center (The Tooke) on FAMU’s campus. The flash mob will consist of a variety of students from FAMU gathering together and working out at the gym. On November 16, 2010 at 7pm during peak hours of the facility, the organized group will then break into a country line dance, a song in which most FAMU students would not be accustomed to hearing. I will begin the dance in a random area of the workout facility which will initiate others from the group to join me at random times throughout the song.

I have taken the leadership role of this group project as I have been scheduling meetings and gathering recruits along with my classmates for this flash mob. Our first meeting was held on October 27, 2010 at The Tooke during our scheduled class time. We decided on the type of flash mob we were going to create and how we were going to recruit students to join our project. Our second meeting was Sunday November 6, 2010 at the FAMU Track with all of our recruits. On this day 25 people joined our group and learned the dance for the special event. Our third and final meeting will be held on November 14, 2010. We will go through a mock run-through of how the event will be created at the FAMU recreation center. Finally, on November 16, 2010, the flash mob event will take place with all of our recruits and classmates. We will have video recordings of the event to retrieve feedback as far as reactions from other FAMU students at the campus recreation center at that time. After the video has been edited, we will then upload it to the proper social medias: YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter just to name a few.

The central idea behind creating this flash mob is to build awareness of these special events and promote organization through people. We want to show that by having a plan and being organized will promote success in any adventure in which you try and achieve.
