THE TEACHER ENGAGES IN ONGOING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND USES EVIDENCE TO CONTINUALLY EVALUATE HIS/HER PRACTICE, PARTICULARLY THE EFFECTS OF HIS/HER CHOICES AND ACTIONS ON OTHERS (LEARNERS, FAMILIES, OTHER PROFESSIONALS, AND THE COMMUNITY), AND ADAPTS PRACTICE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF EACH LEARNER.
During my first placement of student teaching I planned many learning segments for students. Specifically for EDUC 499 we were asked to complete a mock task 1 and task 3 edTPA on a specific learning segment. For my learning segment I taught Finding the LCD of two Rational Expressions, Adding Rational Expressions, and Subtracting Rational Expressions. For this learning segment I accounted for all students in the class being sure to give accommodations to students with IEP’s and 504 plans. One requirement for task 3 is to develop a data table based on the assessment given to the students and plan for the future learning segment. I was required to interpret the data in the chart and decided what my next steps would be in student learning. This demonstrated how I can use evidence to evaluate my teaching and students learning to better prepare for the future and allow for the most student success.
Through St. Bonaventure University we are required to attend many different workshops that are important to future teaching. One of the workshops we attend is the Cultural Diversity Workshop. During this workshop we learn about cultural diversity and how it will apply to our future classroom. This workshop helped me to learn how my actions may affect others and how I can be more culturally aware in my classroom to promote a positive learning environment. This demonstrates my commitment to professional learning and how I plan to adapt and meet the needs of all my future students.
In SPED 440 we were assigned to write a differentiated lesson plan for a classroom that had specific focus students with special needs and accommodations. For this project I had to not only come up with a lesson but also make sure that lesson fit all of the needs of my students. The lesson plan was on using proportions to calculate percent and sales tax. In this lesson I used UDL to explain my multiple means of representation, action and expression, and engagement throughout the lesson. I was also required to explain what scaffolds that I had built into the lesson and how I met identified needs of the focus students. This project helped me understand how I could meet the needs of all my students in my future classroom and what I need to do in everyday lessons to make sure my future student succeed in my classroom.
