The Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education: English Concentration consists of a 120 semester-hour curriculum that includes general education courses required by the University and coursework in education required for teacher certification. The program is nationally recognized  by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), "devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the languiage arts at all levels of education."

    From the NCATE website, "DISCLAIMER: These documents are examples of reports from programs that were granted full national recognition by the appropriate SPA. Each program has given NCATE permission to post its report on the NCATE web site. Numerous examples are provided in order to show the multiple ways that programs can be successful. None of these reports are perfect; but each has strengths and each was able to demonstrate to the SPA that the program had developed assessments that could adequately demonstrate that their completers have mastered the SPA standards.

Assessment of Content Knowledge Assessment

State Licensure Exam: Praxis II Content Test

The state of Louisiana requires the passing of a content knowledge test (e.g., Praxis II Content Test) as a condition of teacher certification. The undergraduate teacher education program at Louisiana Tech University requires the passing of this test prior to admission into the teacher candidate's final clinical practice (e.g., student teaching). The post baccalaureate programs (certfication-only and M.A.T.) require passing scores for program admission.

Assessment of Pedagogical Knowledge

Praxis PLT Test

The state of Louisiana requires the passing of the Praxis II: Principles of Learning and Teaching test as a condition of teacher certification. The undergraduate and post baccalaureate (certfication-only and M.A.T.) teacher education programs at Louisiana Tech University require the passing of this test prior to admission into the teacher candidate's final clinical practice (e.g., student teaching or internship).
