  • Collaboration with Northwestern Memorial: Lurie Children's is a teaching hospital that partners with Northwestern's Feinburg School of Medicine. This is located right next door with hope of attracting and retaining the best and brightest future doctors to come. In addition, it allows patients with chronic illnesses to transition treatment into adulthood at Northwestern Memorial.
  • Community Engagement: The community itself functions as an a major asset. For example, more than 20 partners (i.e. Shedd Aquarium, Pierce Manufacturing) throughout the community have contributed to the kid-friendly designs and figures found throughout the interior of the hospital. These designs are not only pretty to look at, but also aid in the healing process.
  • Sights to see: Having a child stay in the hospital or undergo surgery is never an easy task for parents to face. With countless food places, shopping opportunities, and tourist sites, parents can step out for a few hours and de-stress. They can also find cool souvenirs to bring back and surprise their sick child with.

The organization itself: Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital is strongly dedicated to the health and well-being of all children in the hopes of providing them with a brighter future.

The newly designed inpatient centers make it very convenient for families to visit and remain with their child during treatments and procedures. Besides having a couch and full bathroom in each room, there are amenities such as sleeping rooms, internet access, dining areas, and resting areas.
  • State of the art technology: With a larger space, new technology, and equipment can be utilized. For example, a PET/CT scanner is fundamental in evaluating the success of chemotherapy and neurosurgery. Portable imaging devices can be brought bedside for quicker results, meaning immediate diagnoses and treatments. Lastly, there are 21 operating rooms equipped for minimally invasive procedures. There are 5 additional rooms for special, more complicated procedures.
  • Quality staff and care: There are 1,100 physicians and 4,000 employees that work together to provide the best knowledge and treatment options available for each case presented. Each employee, regardless of job title, does their very best to make each patient feel right at home.
  • Privacy: In this new hospital, there are 288 inpatient beds all in private rooms. These private rooms help control infection and noise, which has been proven to enhance the healing process. It also makes it easier for parents to stay bedside and spend time with their child without having to worry about disrupting others.
  • Expanded Programs: The trauma unit has been able to increase its capacity from 25 to 45 beds, which has allowed them to attend to the region's most critically ill and injured patients. In addition, the new 36-room Cardiac Care Unit, which extends amongst the 15th floor, was created for cardiology and cardiovascular patients to stay from admission to discharge. It is one of the few pediatric units of its specialty found in the nation.

>>Ultimately Lurie Children's functions to provide the best quality and efficient care for the patient. Each asset whether it be creating a family centered atmosphere, new means of technology, or expanding programs all aim to achieve the same goal with the patient in mind.
