Children's Memorial hospital (now Lurie Children's), founded in 1882, has been dedicated to advocating for children and their well-being ever since its beginning. Over the years, their state of the art technology and space has expanded allowing for more efficient treatments and procedures. As a nationally ranked hospital, in the most recent year, there have been 10,948 admissions, 64,748 emergency room visits, 4,211 annual inpatient and 13,070 outpatient surgeries performed.1
To ensure, that the main priority of the hospital is focused on the comfort and care of the child while maintaining a kid friendly environment, there is a Kids' Advisory Board (KAB) which allows for the children being treated to have a voice and share their experience.2
As a patient since 1998, I can testify that this hospital does everything in its power to ensure that children come first. The nurses, doctors, and staff go above and beyond to make the most traumatic experiences, seem a little less frightening. This includes everything from coloring before surgery to flavor preferenced anethesia. Very rarely will you find a patient or family that was dissatisfied with their experience at Lurie Children's. The assets of the new hospital are especially beneficial and contribute to the kid friendly atmosphere with specially designed equipment and facilities.
