I am very fortunate to attend a college that promotes professional development and civic engagement.  Over the past two years I have attended, planned and participated in many activities that will enhance my future teaching career.   


Spring 2005 


Portfolio Presentation

  • I presented my online portfolio and sat on a panel to answer questions from teachers and administrators from Maricopa Community College District regarding electronic portfolios.

Maricopa Community College District Strategic Conversation

  • I sat on a panel of students to answer questions regarding the college experience.  Participated in mini conversations regarding facilities and technology.

2005 Arizona Teacher of the Year Ambassador Linda Laneback

  • Linda Laneback came to speak at Teachers of Tomorrow's year end event.  She spoke to us about the trials, and triumphs of teaching in low socioeconomic schools.

Teachers of Tomorrow

  • President of a campus organization for future teachers.


Fall 2004 


Mesa, Arizona Chapter of the National Education Association

  • A representative from the Arizona chapter of NEA came to give us information about the benefits of being a member of the organization.

Into the Streets

  • Went to Williams Community School as a site leader.  Delegated tasks to a group of students to help clean and organize a low socioeconomic school.

Leadership Retreat

  • Attended a weekend retreat in Heber, Arizona that focused on developing leadership qualities and team building.


Teachers of Tomorrow

  • Founder and President of a campus organization for future teachers.

2004 Arizona Teacher of the Year Ambassador Cynthia Chovich

  • Cynthia Chovich was the key note speaker at Teachers of Tomorrow's inaugural meeting.  She talked about the importance of every child and the impact that we as teachers have on them. 

Beyond Boundaries

  • Chancellor Glasper talked to the community about the future of Maricopa County Community Colleges.

Chancellor Glasper's Dialogue Luncheon

  • Chancellor Glasper had lunch with campus organization presidents to get feedback about the college experience.


Spring 2004


Hunger Banquet

  • Attended an event that raised awareness about the worl'ds hunger issues.

Understanding Muslim Students
  • Sponsored by: National Association for Multicultural Education


Fall 2003


Future Teachers of America Conference

  • Sponsored by: South Mountain Community College's Future Teachers of America

Superintendent of Public Education Tom Horne

  • Tom Horne came to encourage future teachers and talk about his future plans as superintendent.


Democratic Presidential Candidate Forum

  • Democratic presidential representatives came to talk about what their candidates positions were on the issues
