Relationships in a Classroom Setting is a class that forced us to think about the little things that create the classroom atmosphere. We found out through text reading, discussions and a guest speaker that it is the little things that create problems in the classroom. Certain procedures like sharpening pencils and passing out papers are important aspects of teachers planning. I have learned about different techniques that will help me maintain control in my future classroom like, standing close to a student, referred to as proximity, and eye contact to let them know you are aware of their behavior. This class afforded me the opportunity to write responses to scholarly education articles relating to classroom management. I spent twenty hours of service learning in a junior high school observing the classroom management techniques we talked about in class actually being implemented in a real classroom. This class has given me a better understanding of the classroom environment and the role that I play in creating it.
