I have gained a wealth of information through my Cultural Diversity in Education class. Through guest speakers, peer presentations, research and class discussions, I have learned about different cultures. The Native American speaker informed us that many students, who live on the reservations, might miss a lot of school or be consistently late to class. She noted that the Native culture is not as concerned about following the same time guidelines as the majority of the country. Learning specific things about different cultures helps me as a teacher understand my diverse classroom and create a safe environment, breaking down stereotypes and building acceptance among the students.
