Class Web Page Rationale

Context:

This Web Page was created in the Spring Semester of 2008.  This assignment was created for the class Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching (CI 3750) for my Elementary Education Degree through Appalachian State University’s Off Campus Program at the Hickory Metro Higher Education Center in Catawba County.  The professor for this class was Jeff Goodman.

Impact:

This assignment will be a great and useful tool when I finish my degree and begin teaching.  For this assignment, I have created a web page online that I can insert more of my own work, assignments, calendars, etc. when I am teaching in order to help my students and their parents.  My webpage allows parents and students to see what is going on in the classroom.  It includes a homework page, a calendar page, a photo gallery page, information about media in students’ lives, a student resources page, and a parent resources page.

Alignment:

NETS-T Technology Standard II.B

I met this standard by doing research for how media affects literacy in the lives of students.  I questioned children and their media habits and showed the results of my findings, as well as other websites for parents that will let them see how media affects their child’s life.

NETS-T Technology Standard II.C

I met this standard by choosing websites for parents and children that give information, as well as fun for students to play games.  I tried to choose some sites that were educational and some sites that would be enjoyable for the students.  I also chose sites to help parents with different issues that their children may be facing.

NETS-T Technology Standard II.E

I met this standard by having a homework page that will be updated weekly with not only the week’s homework, but also spelling words and other aspects of the week’s work that will help the students and parents get their work done.

NETS-T Technology Standard IV.B

I met this standard by collecting data from students about their media/television habits at home and telling about my findings to help parents see how television affects their children in order to help maximize their child’s learning.  I used the internet to find information about how television affects students learning and applied what I found in my research to the results of my questionnaire.

NETS-T Technology Standard V.A

I met this standard by including a web page for teachers that has websites that have helpful tips, lesson plans, activities, etc.  This will help other teachers, as well as me, with ongoing professional development and lifelong learning through these websites.

NETS-T Technology Standard V.B

I met this standard because my media literacy ethnography helped me see how media and technology affects students.   I was surprised how many students were allowed to watch what they wanted and their parents didn’t control what they did.  This along with my research really let me see how television affects children.

NETS-T Technology Standard VI.A

I met this standard by showing the release form that was used for parents to sign permission in order to show pictures on my photo gallery.  The release form is in both English and Spanish.

NETS-T Technology Standard VI.C

I met this standard by showing the release form for parents in both English and Spanish.
