Comic Strip Artist
1. Pick your favorite scene from the book.
2. Do your homework!! What I mean by that is do your research that surrounds the events of your scene. Go to the resources page and look up information about the 1960's or about a particular event or issue. For example: homelessness, gang violence, heroic events (saving the children from the burning church), economic boundaries.
3. Read the comic section in the Washington Post. What catches your eye. What order do the comics flow in?
4. Sketch a storyboard illustrating a scene from the book. It must include at least 6 squares. Make sure you use exciting words.
Don't forget the 5 W's (Who?,What?,Where?,When?,Why?)!
5. Have your classmates review your sketch. What suggestions did they give for improvements? What did they like?
6. Revise if needed.
7. Create your final comic strip on a piece of poster board. Please make sure your work is neat and your drawings are colored.
* You will be graded on ideas, word choice, and conventions.
