Man on Moon (Lg.)

Context: These assignments were completed under the advisement of Terry Carroll in summer 2008.

Impact: The 5E Learning Cycle focuses on the Solar System and is designed to meet the North Carolina Standard Course of Study in Science for 6th grade. The Lunar Cycle is a project that was completed over a 3-day picture in which the moon had to be observed every night at the same time. The purpose was to see how the moon changed over a period of time. The K-1 Center focuses on animals and their habitat. The Demonstration is a study of weather and tornados.

Alignment:

Standard 3:

Indicators 1 and 3: These indicators were met through the all four of the attached lessons. The 5E Learning Cycle teaches about the Solar System with different activities that relate to the planets, their locations, and their distances. The Lunar Cycle focuses on the moon and how it changes and moves. The K-1 Center teaches about animals and their different habitats. The Demonstration teaches about weather and tornados.

Standard 10:

This standard was met through the 5E Learning Cycle. Students were expected to use science processing skills to answer questions about the solar system. They were expected to predict, measure, interpret, and analyze throughout the different activities in this lesson.

Standard 15:

Indicator 1: This indicator was met through assignments that can be used with a diverse group of students. The assignments are hands on and designed to give personal attention to underrepresented groups of students.

Standard 17:

Indicators 1, 2, and 4: These indicators were met by insuring that all of the necessary equipment need to complete a lab activity were available safe for the children to use. The teacher is also responsible for making sure that the students know and follow the safety rules when using lab materials.
