Context-
This web page was created under the advisement of Mr. Jeff Goodman during spring semester of 2007. It was created as a part of Block 1 requirements in my CI 3750 class: Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching. This was completed with information about Moravian Falls Elementary School in Wilkes County, NC. The class with which I completed my practicum was Ms. Darcy Alexander's second grade class.
Impact-
Students and parents alike would be able to use this web page to keep up with homework assignments as well as find helpful information about academic success, media, and school events. I plan to implement a similar web page with my future classroom to keep students and parents informed about what we are doing in class.
Alignment-
This project helped me meet these NETS-T Standards:
II-C- Attaching links for students to view allowed me to identify and locate technology resources as well as evaluate their quality. The links that I chose were made specifically for children and were educational sites. I included a link to the local library so that students can look up educational events and interesting books.
II-E- The homework page on the web page helps me to manage student learning using technology. I am giving students homework assignments that are to be turned in the next day. This page would also include links that I want the students to view for homework as well as tips for doing homework well.
V-A- The class web site as a whole helped me to learn and develop professionally. I have never completed a web page before, but have always wanted to include one for my classroom. I also had to locate information about television and academic success, homework guidelines, and media warnings. Each of these topics will be important for me to address through my teaching. I will need to know how to stop students from failing, correct ways to give homework, and what media to include in my classroom.
V-B- This web page allowed me to evaluate and reflect on technology use in the school. I have given a media survey to the students and placed the results in the web page so that students and parents are able to see the result. The survey also allowed me to be more aware of what media students are exposed to. I have also been able to take photos of the students to place on the web page after making sure that they each had signed release forms.
VI-A- Using a student release form for this project enabled me to model legal and ethical practice related to technology use. Students would need to know that before including a picture of someone or before using someone in a video the person would need to give permission to the student. Without permission, the student would not be using legal or ethical practice during their technology projects.
VI-C- Using a Spanish version of the student release form enabled me to reach students of different backgrounds. The Spanish release form will enable Spanish speaking students to see the importance of legal and ethical technology use. It also shows the importance of diversity, because it acknowledges that all students do not speak the same language.
